West Virginia Sees New Record Striper

Michael Pittman Jr. of Wayside, W.V., landed a 40.88-inch, 21.38-pound striped bass July 8 at Bluestone Lake, setting a new state record for length.

The fish topped the previous record striper length of 37.75 inches. That fish also came from Bluestone Lake in 2006.

The fish falls short in the weight category. The state record striper heavyweight tipped the scales at 29.56 pounds -- another Bluestone striper.
